CHICKAMAUGA, GA (May 21, 2009) -
The Clint Bowyer Racing team, with Dale McDowell behind the wheel of their immaculate #17m Warrior / Custom racecar, registered their first win of the 2009 racing season last Friday night, May 15 in thrilling fashion at the Paducah International Raceway in Paducah, Kentucky! The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned a $10,000 to win show on Friday at PIR and the cameras of the SPEED Channel were on hand to tape all of the wheel-to-wheel action for broadcast later in the year.
Dale won his competitive heat race and later drew the outside second row starting spot for the 50-lap main event. The Chickamauga, Georgia native ran competitively early on in the race before turning up the wick on the high-side of the 3/8-mile oval in the second half of the event. Dale took the point from Scott Bloomquist on lap thirty-eight and survived a thrilling last couple of circuits to beat Bloomquist, Billy Moyer, Chris Wall, and Shannon Babb to the checkers. The driver known as the "MacDaddy" now finds himself third in the latest Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series point standings following the show at Paducah.
After a rain-out at the LaSalle (IL) Speedway on Saturday evening, the weekend concluded for the #17m team on Sunday, May 17 at the Lincoln Speedway in Lincoln, Illinois. Dale laid down the fifteenth fastest lap in World of Outlaws Late Model Series qualifying on Sunday and later won his heat race. After starting seventh on the grid in the $7,000 to win, 40-lap feature event, Dale was able to work by three cars en route to a solid fourth place performance behind winner Rick Eckert, Josh Richards, and Chub Frank. "Hopefully our luck is starting to turn around," exclaimed McDowell earlier this week. "It was a great win for our entire team at Paducah and the race had to be an exciting one for the fans to watch. Then we turned around and had a solid performance at Lincoln as well. I think that we are finally starting to turn the corner and I am excited about competing at West Plains and Granite City this weekend!"
Next up for the #17m team will be a pair of special events this upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend in Missouri and Illinois. On Friday and Saturday, May 22-23, the West Plains Motor Speedway in West Plains, Missouri will play host to the 17th Annual 'O'Reilly Show-Me 100.' The cameras of the SPEED Channel will be on hand at WPMS this weekend to tape all of the dirt-slinging action for broadcast later in the year.
On Sunday, May 24, the competition will switch to the Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois for another round of Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series action.
