Jeep Van Wormer Conquers Kentucky Lake for First Win of 2009 Season!

PINCONNING, MICHIGAN (March 10, 2009) - Jeep Van Wormer and his Iron Motorsports team made a late decision to travel south to the Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway in Calvert City, Kentucky over the March 6-7 weekend, but the decision paid off in a big way.

The #55 team reached victory lane for the first time in the early 2009 campaign on Friday night, March 6 by besting a stout 50 car field at KLMS.  Jeep swept the night's racing activities at the southwestern Kentucky speedplant, as he set fast time in qualifying, won his competitive heat race, and led all thirty laps of the 'March Madness' main event.  The Pinconning, Michigan hotshoe picked up the $5,000 top prize over Billy Moyer, Will Vaught, Steve Francis, and Steve Casebolt.

The second night of the 'March Madness' weekend was then held at KLMS on Saturday evening, March 7 and a $7,500 winner's check was on the line.  Jeep once again paced the field during qualifying, as he grabbed fast time honors for the second straight night.  Following a third place performance in his heat race, he rolled off from the inside of the fifth row for the 40-lap feature event.  Jeep was impressive throughout the A-Main, as he worked his #55 Rocket chassis past four competitors en route to a fifth place effort behind winner Jason Feger, Shannon Babb, Ray Cook, and Frank Heckenast, Jr.  You can view complete results from the unsanctioned weekend by accessing www.kentuckylakemotorspeedway.net.

"It was a great weekend at Kentucky Lake for the Iron Motorsports team," exclaimed Van Wormer following the successful trip to the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  "This new Rocket racecar was fast all weekend and it was truly a blast racing up front both nights.  The racetrack was in great shape and I think the crowd got to enjoy two great races.  The win will make the long flight over to Australia a lot easier and I can't wait to race in front of the fans down under.  Hopefully, we can build on the victory and have continued success throughout the 2009 season!"

Jeep is currently in Australia where he plans to compete at the multi-million dollar Perth Motorplex in Perth, West Australia on March 13-14.  The 7th Annual 'Late Model Nationals' will take place at Perth over the weekend and a $3,000 payday is up for grabs in Australia's most prestigious Dirt Late Model event.  Jeep will be driving a MasterSbilt racecar that is normally campaigned by Warren Oldfield.  He would like to thank Warren & Jamie Oldfield, Warren Bishop, and everybody else that has made his trip to Australia possible.  You can view additional information on this exciting event by accessing www.motorplex.com.au.
