The Budweiser Shootout proved once again to be an exciting race with a wild conclusion that involved a multi-car wreck on the race’s final lap. Unfortunately for Joe Gibbs Racing none of its cars were able to avoid being caught in one of the many accidents on the night. Kyle Busch, driver of the No. 18 M&Ms Toyota, and Denny Hamlin, driver of the No. 11 FedEx Toyota, were both victims of that accident in the final lap of the race, which was extended to 78 laps with a green-white-checkered finish. While Joey Logano, driver of the No. 20 Home Depot saw his night ended early when he was caught in the night’s first accident on lap four. Busch started the night in 10th and finished in 10th after he was caught in the accident on the race’s final lap. He had spent much of the night near the front and led twice for a total of six laps before being caught up in the accident. Hamlin started the night in fifth place and also spent the majority of the race running near the front, leading twice for a total of four laps before having his night end on the final lap. Meanwhile Logano, making his first start in the No. 20 Home Depot Toyota for JGR was a victim of bad luck early in the race as he deftly went to the low side of the track coming out of turn four to avoid an accident but was unable to avoid contact and would see his night completed after just three laps. Logano had an eventful day, as he managed to slide by a number of accidents in the afternoon’s ARCA race for a second-place finish in the No. 25 Home Depot Toyota. Kevin Harvick of Richard Childress Racing captured the victory in the Shootout, which has been an annual pre-season tradition in NASCAR since 1979. Next up for the three-car JGR contingent is qualifying to set the pole for the Daytona 500 which will be held Sunday, Feb. 8 at 1 PM and broadcast live on Fox. The first event on the NASCAR Sprint Cup schedule is the Sunday, Feb. 15 Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway. The race begins at 3:20 p.m. EST with live, high-definition coverage provided by FOX beginning with its pre-race show at 2 PM. The race will also be broadcast live on SIRIUS Satellite Radio Channel 128.
