CONCORD, NC (August 27, 2009) - Matt Long and his GazZu Energy Drinks Racing Team were back in action this past weekend in a pair of events in the Carolinas. Long made the short trip over to Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, North Carolina on Friday and then on Saturday the team moved over to I-77 Speedway in Chester, South Carolina. Both nights the team met with continued success and showed marked improvement in consistency. “It sure feels good to be winning and contending to win races again.” Long states.
On Friday night Long won his heat in convincing fashion and then led every lap for his second win of the season at the 3/8ths mile oval. “We have been getting better every time we have been at Carolina. I think that Friday night just showed that we are beginning to building our consistency. The car was by far the best it has been all year long. I could race anywhere on the track that I needed to. I knew we were really close after finishing second in last weeks Shrine 100 over there.” Long states.
Saturday night’s action was not as easy on Long. He started on the tail of his heat race and moved up to the fourth position by the races end. During the feature event Long fought his way forward to a fifth place finish after starting eighth on the grid. “The car was really very good again Saturday night. It was just really hard to pass and the feature was all green flag laps. So we are happy to get a top five out of it. We feel like we are finally back where we were last year with our program.” Long adds.
Long and his GazZu Energy Drinks Team will once again return to action this weekend for a pair of area events. On Friday Long will return to the Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, North Carolina for NDRA Weekly Racing Series competition. Then on Saturday night the team will head over to Lancaster Speedway on Lancaster, South Carolina for a $1,500 to win NDRA special. Long will use this weekends events to tune-up for the $10,000 to win Pro Late Model Nationals slated for September 5th and 6th at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia.
