Brisbane Australia Summer Slam To Oldfield Powered By Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil

AUSTRAILIA (March 23, 2008) - He may not be a regular on the Series this season but Qld'er Luke Oldfield reminded everyone just how well he can race by biding his time through the first half of the Feature event at Titan Garages Brisbane International Speedway on Saturday night March 22, before racing his way past Mark Robinson to capture a popular win in Round 5 of the V8 Dirt Modified Summer Slam Series.

Oldfield, driving the Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil/Quantum Racing Industries #17 and starting alongside Robinson on the front row of the thirty lap main event after they finished 1-2 in the A-Dash, never looked out of contention for the victory despite Robinson opening up a sizeable lead in the opening laps. As Robinson encountered lapped traffic, Oldfield was in the perfect position to time his run and had a number of attempts at taking the lead before the race came under the yellow lights mid-distance. Five laps later, the leaders were again in the thick of the back markers and this time Oldfield made the race winning move on Robinson and from that point he was never headed on the run to the chequers.

The race for the minors was on in earnest throughout the Feature event as firstly Darren Latimer and Andrew Pezzutti battled for third place and then it was Robinson and Pezzutti's turn. Pezzutti looked to have won both battles and was in second place heading down the back straight on the final lap as Oldfield entered turn three, with Robinson not far behind Pezzutti. The race took a dramatic turn at this point as firstly Oldfield was forced to check up to avoid contact with a lapped car and then Pezzutti, who saw his opportunity for a possible victory open up as Oldfield slowed, made contact with a lapped car in the middle of turn three. As Oldfield crossed the finish line the winner, Robinson raced under Pezzutti coming off of turn four to re-claim second with Pezzutti finishing third but coming to a stop just past the finish line with front end damage to his racecar.

Australian Champion Tim Morse finished fourth, giving the crowd plenty to cheer about by running both the top and bottom of the racetrack in his run from eighth position on the grid, with Scott Cannon, Stuart Herne, defending Series Champion Steven Milthorpe, Rebecca Kiehne, Steve Wright and Trevor Perry completing the top ten finishers.

Tim Morse continues to lead the chase for the 2007/08 V8 Dirt Modified Summer Slam Series crown as the Series heads back south, his fifty-two point lead now narrowed to just thirty-five with just one Round remaining.
